Scientific research
is aimed at studying allergic aspects of pathogenesis, therapy of tissue
human helminthoses, fixing the role of biologically active substances (acetylholine,
serotonine, adrenaline, eycozanoids), hormones, electrolyte exchange in the
development of parasite system at helminthoses, ecologo-parasite
characteristic of trichinelosis in Belarus has been given, antihelminths
medamine and rafaxanide have been studied, schemes of their usage have been
works out.
Since 1990 the chair
started to work at he new scientific trend – “The role of host genome in
developing the system parasite-host at tissue helminthoses”. It was shown
that metabolites of trichinella, ascaride, and also of small taenia larva
imaginal stages cause genotype damage both of somatic and generative host
cells. In the development of these damages a great role is due to the
invasive material dose, taken at infection, parasite biology peculiarities,
disorders of oxidizing-repairing processes in an invasive organism. On the
materials of this research international conferences were conducted: ·

2000 the chair took part in the development of transplants reaction
prophylaxis against host. This research finished by treating of the
apparatuses “BELSEP-L” and “BELSEP-K” for diagnostics and prophylaxis of
transplants reaction against host. According to the results of scientific
work in 1990-2004 the staff of the chair and its rivals defended the

2004. From 2000 at the chair they started publishing national appliances in
medical biology for the students of Medical, Stomatological and
Pharmaceutical Faculties, and also manuals for Medical Schools. The chair
constantly helps practical Health Service and national education.
Scientific-practical conferences in parasitozoos, anhropozoos, helminthes,
arakhnoentomoses and others were steadily conducted with doctors and
biologists at the basis of the chair. The chair was an initiator of creating
the biological lyceum in the Vitebsk region, which starting from 1990 has
been working on its base. In 1982 the head of the chair O.-Y. Bekish formed
part of Central problematic studying-methodical committee in biology in the
USSR Ministry of Health. In 1984 at the basis of the chair there was a
meeting of Central problematic teaching-methodical committee, at which
teaching-methodical work of the chair was highly approved and its experience
was recommended for all the biology chairs of the USSR medical universities.
For achievements in teaching and methodical work professor O.-Y. Bekish in
1984 was given an estate “Honored worker of BSSR High School”. By the task
of Central problematic committee in biology in the USSR Ministry of Health
the table of biology chairs equipment in medical institutes and medical
faculties of the medical universities was developed and published in 1984.
At this period O.-Y. Bekish wrote and published manuals “Medical
Parasitology” (1989) and “Manual in Biology for the Applicants of Medical
Institutes” (co-author N.S. Gurina, 1991). Methodical recommendations for
the students and the lecturers are developed; museum expositions on life
development, anthropogenesis, brain and spinal column evolution of the
vertebrate animals are made at the chair. The preparatory department was
opened at the university in 1975. The chair got exercise-books for the
department’s listeners, developed and published methodical recommendations
for practical classes in botany, zoology, anatomy and general biology
(1981), which were worked up and published again until 2000. In 1981 the
chair was awarded the Decree of BSSR MINHEE for the great achievements in
organizing studying process. From 2000 till 2004 exercise-books and manuals
with the stamp Republic of Belarus Ministry of Health were published: Bekish

1996 Bekish O.-Y. L. was elected a correspondent member of National Belarus
Academy of Sciences, and in January 1999 International Bibliographic Center
of Cambridge (England) officially stated that he was included into the
number of 2000 outstanding scientists of the 20th century and was given a
Diploma and a Medal from General Director of this Center. The chair of
medical biology and general genetics continues intensive work aimed at
training staff for Belarus and further development of scientific research in
human parasitology.
